Creating a Telnet/SSH Access Profile

The Telnet/SSH Access Profile or connection uses the Telnet protocol to communicate with a remote terminal (network device or server) over a TCP/IP connection. It allows users to connect to embedded and legacy systems in a secure, consistent and user-friendly way across all connectivity modes.

SSH is a network protocol designed for secure remote access to CLIs (command-line interfaces) on Windows, Linux, and Mac systems. It leverages public-key cryptography and symmetric encryption, to ensure secure communication for tasks such as remote server management, file transfers, and console-based applications.

In Thinfinity Workspace, the Telnet/SSH Access Profile allows the user to choose whether or not to use the SSH secure alternative when connecting to a remote terminal.

To create a Telnet/SSH Access Profile:

Start the Access Profile Wizard

Click on the New Profile button in the home page or alternatively, click the +Add button from the Access Profiles tab of the Settings menu.

Select an Access Profile Type

Select Terminal and click Next.

Choose the Terminal Connection Type

In the next step of the wizard choose the type of terminal that you want to publish, then click Next.

Set Up the Connection

Enter the IP address of the remote resource. By default, port 23 is selected. To use a different port, de-select the Auto option. Optionally, enable the SSH option to use the SSH protocol for a secure encrypted connection, then click Next to proceed.

Specify the Terminal Type

Select the terminal type and the display characteristics then click Next to proceed.

Set the Permissions for the Access Profile

Disable the Allow Anonymous Access option and use the Add button to select the users and groups that will have access to the new Access Profile.

Note

Find users and groups link will only be available when working with Directory Services.

Set the Access Profile Name

Enter a descriptive name for the new Access Profile, then select an icon for the new profile and click Done to publish your Telnet/SSH Terminal Access Profile.

Configure the Access Profile

The wizard guides you through the essential settings required for the connection to the target resource. Thinfinity Workspace assigns default values for the rest of the parameters of the connection. To customize these parameters, access the Settings menu of the Access Profile.

Commit the Changes

Click Commit to apply the configured connection parameters.

• If you are defining only one profile, you can use Commit right after configuring all the desired parameters.

• If you are defining several profiles or complex profile configurations, use Commit after you have everything in place.
