6.6 Desktop Client
Overview
The Desktop Client is a Windows-native application that emulates the Thinfinity Workspace® Web Manager in an embedded desktop format. It relies on an existing Thinfinity® Workspace environment and provides a seamless, local alternative to web-based access.
Besides acting as a wrapper for the Web Manager, the Desktop Client functions as a secure, all-in-one remote access solution, supporting multiple protocols including RDP, VNC, SSH, and ThinPrint. With integrated Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) security, it replaces the need for multiple standalone clients, streamlining the remote experience and reinforcing security.
Key Benefits
Legacy Peripheral Access
Running within the same virtual desktop environment, the Desktop Client allows native access to local peripherals such as printers, scanners, and USB devices, offering broader compatibility and eliminating complex configurations often required in browser-based sessions.
Native RDP Integration
As a local client leveraging the RDP protocol, it offers a more responsive and integrated experience while retaining Thinfinity Workspace’s robust ZTNA protection.
Unified SSH Access
Unlike traditional tools like PuTTY, Thinfinity Workspace provides SSH capabilities directly within the client, enabling users to connect securely to Linux/Unix servers, transfer files, and run commands without external tools.
Secure File Transfers
Thinfinity Workspace eliminates the need for separate FTP clients by allowing direct file transfers between local and remote desktops via encrypted TLS tunnels, simplifying workflows and enhancing security.
Improved User Experience
As a native application, the Desktop Client delivers greater stability, responsiveness, and a consistent UI, especially in environments where performance, peripheral redirection, or session persistence is essential.
