9.1.1 Understanding the Analytics Add-On
Analytics is a powerful tool for administrators who require a comprehensive understanding of how Thinfinity® Workspace is used across their organization. Moving beyond basic session tracking, it offers rich historical data that supports both operational and strategic decision-making.
Core Functionality
Analytics uses data collected by the Audit Log to present granular information about user activity and system interactions. Key areas of tracking include:
Session Lifecycle: Each session is fully logged—from initiation to termination—capturing the start and end timestamps, username, and the originating IP address.
Connection Activity: A detailed log of all connections within each session offers a complete audit trail of access events.
Login Attempts: Both successful and failed login attempts are recorded, with details such as the timestamp, username, source IP, and associated status messages. This information is essential for troubleshooting authentication issues and enhancing security visibility.
Browser Usage: The module tracks which browsers are used to access Thinfinity Workspace, including user agent strings and browser versions. This can help ensure client compatibility and inform support decisions.
File Transfers: During remote sessions, all file transfer activity is logged. Each entry includes the date and time, the user and IP involved, the profile name under which the session occurred, and the specific actions performed—such as deleting, saving, updating, or modifying permissions.
Operational and Strategic Insights
The collected analytics data can be leveraged in several impactful ways:
Performance Monitoring: By analyzing metrics such as session duration and connection frequency, administrators can identify bottlenecks and opportunities for system optimization.
Capacity Planning: Usage trends, including peak usage periods and resource demands, support data-driven decisions about infrastructure scaling and resource provisioning.
Security Auditing: With robust logs of login attempts and session activity, Analytics contributes to a comprehensive security audit trail, helping detect anomalies or unauthorized access.
Usage Analysis: Insights into how users interact with published applications and virtual desktops—such as usage frequency and session length—enable smarter application lifecycle and resource management.
Accessing Analytics Data
Administrators can view analytics data directly from the Thinfinity Workspace management interface. The information is neatly categorized, making it easy to explore specific areas such as: Sessions, Connections, Logins, Browsers, and File Transfers.
Each category provides a focused view of relevant historical data to support detailed investigations and reporting.
