Bidirectional Audio Redirection

Bidirectional audio redirection allows audio input and output to flow seamlessly between a client device and a remote desktop or application session. This feature enables users to send audio from their local microphone to the remote environment and receive audio from the remote session on their local speakers or headset, supporting full-duplex communication. It is essential for use cases involving voice calls, video conferencing, dictation, and other audio-interactive applications running remotely.

To enable Bidirectional audio redirection, follow these steps:

1

Open the Access Profile Settings menu

In Thinfinity Workspace home page, locate the access profile for which you want to enable Bidirectional audio redirection, click on the three-dot menu and select Edit.

2

Enable Bidirectional Audio Redirection

In the profile Settings menu navigate to Resources tab and check the option Enable Remote Sound.

  • The default (and recommended) sound quality is Optimum.

  • If you select Play on remote computer, the sound will play only on the remote computer and not on the local machine.

3

Check the sound quality

Connect and play a remote sound from your preferred browser.

The first time you use this feature, the browser (on the end user machine, on the remote host or both) may ask for permission to use the camera and/or microphone. Once permission is granted, you will need to refresh the page for the changes to take effect.

Note

If Microphone redirection is enabled (which it is by default), you will have to grant the browser permission to access it. For details on how to do that, see the Browser Configuration section in How to Redirect Video and Audio over RDP Connections with Thinfinity Workspace.
